I got the boot

Today I went to the doctor for a check up. Originally they were supposed to take off my cast, check my incisions, take X-rays, then put me back in a cast for another two weeks.

However my doc said it was looking really good and that I could get the boot now if I wanted instead of another cast.

I still cant walk or put any weight in it but I can take it off for a shower and to air it out. My legs were very dry and hairy. It reminded me of when I didn't shave in high school for swimming.

Doc said I was growing new bones and they were mending together nicely. Yay!!

My boot even has an air pump so I can pump it up or unpump it as my foot swells. Good thing since the hot weather makes if swell quickly.

I got in.....

the pool!! It has been a month since I have been in the pool. When I got my cast a couple weeks ago I asked the doctor about getting in the pool. He suggested Saran wrap and a trash bag with duct tape.

We hadn't tried it yet but decided tonight would be as good a time as any to try!

We wrapped it up good with Saran wrap

Then covered it with a trash bag and used duct tape to try to deal it.

The hardest part so far was getting in using one leg and Jeremy. Since we don't have a deck, there's only a ladder to use. Trying to do that with leg was harder than I thought it would be.
Of course I haven't tried to get out yet and in sure that will prove just as difficult.

But for now here I am enjoying it for the first time in a month.

Run With All Your Hart Virtual 4 Mile Run

The run dedicated to fallen runner Sarah Hart has gone virtual. The 4 mile race will take place on Saturday, August 11th in Russell Springs, Kentucky. If you don't live in KY, you can also register and run with them virtually.   If you register to run virtually, they will mail you a race t-shirt.  How many virtual races can say that?  So far there are already over 600 people registered, plus 103 virtual runners.  They are looking to get runners represented in all 50 states.

For those of you who do not know the story, Sarah was murdered while she was running for her money.  Her killer took her Ipod and her life.  Thankfully, he has been arrested. Sarah was a mother of three and pregnant with their fourth child.  She was running with her sister, she started not to feel well.  Her sister went back to get the car. When she got back to where Sarah had been, she was gone.  The victim of a mad man.

Uncle Dummy and Aunt Cripple

Last week Jeremy's grandmother passed away. His brother and family came up and stayed with us for the visitation and funeral.

The youngest boy, Lex who is 5, has trouble saying his J's and R's so when he said Uncle Jeremy it came out Uncle Dummy.

Trulea and Uncle Jeremy

My sister in law came up with Aunt Cripple because of my leg and because it sounds close to Crystal. We got a big kick out of being Uncle Dummy and Aunt Cripple for the next few days.

While we are sad that Jeremy's grandmother passed away, we were glad we got to see Jonathan , Trisha and the kids. We went to see Brave and went to a Japanese hibachi place. The boys loved it, but Trulea was not a fan of the fire.

The house is much quieter without the kids here. We are planning on seeing them again next month for Trulea's birthday.

Go CAST (CATS)

I went this morning to the doctor to check my leg after the surgery. It has been two weeks and it was time for a check up.
The nurse cut off my splint and I got to see my foot for the first time. She cut out my stitches today too. Scroll past the next couple pictures if you have a weak stomach!

I have been having a pain in the bottom of my heel (not near the incisions) that I was worried about. The doctor said that was normal and it was from my heel taking the pressure of my leg when I'm resting it.
They took X-rays and showed me my new hardware.

Then it was time to get an actual cast. I was thinking of either green (fav color) or blue (for ky). The doctor said I needed to come back in two weeks. They would take off this cast, look at my heel, then put another cast on for another two weeks.

I decided on University of Kentucky CATS paws! I think I will get green next time.

Now the question is do I let people sign this one or the next one? I'm thinking the next one....
I go back to work tomorrow for a half day. It will be good to go back, get out of the house, and feel productive again!

Thanks Lesley for the cute blog title!

Zoom zoom

Jeremy and I went to Kroger to pick up a few things. They had about 4 motorized wheelchairs available. I was so happy that they had them. We knew Walmart had them but wasn't sure about Kroger.

It took a few minutes to get the hang of it but after I did it was quite fun. Next time I think Jeremy might get one too so we can race!!
