Puppy Power

I have been wanting a puppy for quite a while now. Jeremy though says we are a one dog family. I had given up on a puppy after the scare with Deuce this summer but it has been on my mind again lately.

A couple days ago jeremy and I were talking about our plans an goals now that the half and full is over. I told him I want to break 30 in a 5K. He said he thought I could by the end of next racing season. I informed him I wanted it by the end of 2011. He politely told me that he didn't think I could do it.

I told him I thought I could. I asked what he would give me if I did.... (running is very extrinsic for me still). He said I want to say I'll give you a puppy but I'm afraid you would do it.

I told him that I have never broken 10 minutes outside and for me to do it three times back to back within the next month is pretty impossible and to just go on and make the suggestion. He did and we shook on it!

Today was my first day of training for a sub 30. I ran 3 x 1 mile on the treadmill, resting 2-4 minutes in between them. My splits were: 9:32, 9:21, 9:59. For an overall pace of 9:38! A 9:40 pace or under is what is needed to gut sub 30.

My legs felt good and were rested, especially since this was my first run since the half. However, my breathing was a struggle. I'm definitely going to have to work on that so I can do the three miles without stopping between them.

  1. I am totally rooting for you, you need a puppy, puppies are the best, you should add to the bet, that you get to play with the puppy and he has to do the cleaning of the puppy messes, I know, its a long shot, but worth it
